Akers Biosciences, Inc. (Akers) develops, manufactures and supplies rapid, point-of-care screening and testing products designed to bring healthcare information both rapidly and directly to the patient or healthcare provider. The Company offers six different proprietary platform technologies, and has developed products based on these technologies. While its products focus on infectious diseases, tumor markers, cardiac markers, neuropsychiatric analytes and blood grouping, Akers' technologies provide uniform platforms for the development of diagnostic tests for other applications, including several metabolites, environmentally-sensitive compounds, food-related contaminants and bio-warfare agents. During the year ended December 31, 2004, the Company developed the BioSniffer technology, which is designed to continuously monitor airborne bacterial, viral and fungal pathogens.
